DESCRIPTION: \nHand Dyeing Yarn – Day Retreat Saturday May 10th\, 2025\, 8:30 am Learn how to easily create vibrant and uniquely colored yarns & roving. Gaywool Dye is an easy\, safe\, economical\, color fast and dependable dyeing product. Class includes all materials needed to take home beautifully dyed yarn and roving. The class is taught by a Gaywool Dye Instructor. Choose between a full day or half day class Full Day Make 3 colorful skeins and one colorful braid of roving 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Class Fee: $109 Half Day Make 2 skeins of colorful yarn 8:30 am – 12:00 noon Class Fee: $59 Bring a sack lunch. We provide beverages. There is a class minimum of five\, and a maximum of 20 participants. Additionally\, inquire about hosting a hand dye class at your location or about becoming a Gaywool Dye Wholesale Dealer. Retreats are augmented by hands on learning tools available in the Educational Farm Museum. There you can find a collection of fiber arts from around the world. Other fiber arts classes are offered on an individual or group basis throughout the year. The Farm Store is open Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm\, year-round\, offering Gaywool dyes in a variety of sizes\, hand dyed and un-dyed natural yarns\, roving and Gaywool Dyes. SUMMARY:Woolly Weekend at Shepherd’s Cross
DESCRIPTION:Annual Summer “Make Over” or Haircut for the Sheep & An Authentic Sheep-to-Shawl Event\n​\nDid you know that sheep must be shorn every year?  Sheep grow a nice long winter coat\, and in preparation for the heat of the summer\, the shepherd lovingly and laboriously gives them a shearing – a haircut.  They would suffer heat prostration amongst other ailments if they were not shorn each year. In giving the sheep a shearing\, the shepherd demonstrates his love for the sheep. Did you know that sheep can be shorn standing or sitting?  We shear our sheep “sitting.”  Sheep naturally relax when in the sitting position.  This is the way sheep are shorn all over the world\, and throughout history.  This reminds us of our Lord Jesus\, in the reference from Isaiah 53\, “Like a sheep before the shearers is silent\, so the Lord went to the cross on our behalf.”\n​ \n\nSee the shearing every 30 minutes on all three days.\nExperience the shepherds and shepherdesses shearing. This is not a speed competition\, but the work of real\, working\, caring shepherds.\nWatch as the wool is shorn from the sheep (a simple haircut!)\, and is washed\, spun\, and woven into usable products – a shawl or other wool product – right before your eyes.\nThis is an authentic sheep-to-shawl event\, one of only a few such events in the world\, in which the first wool shorn during the weekend is actually made into a finished product that same weekend.\nWoolly Weekend will proceed even in the event of rain\nDemonstrations throughout the day include spinning wheels\, carding\, weaving on looms\, felting\, drop spindling\, knitting\, crochet\nThis is our Easter event.\nEnjoy a peaceful respite at the farm – hang out and watch the sheep graze\nFarm Museum\, Silo\, Wool Mill\, Bible Garden\, Shepherd’s Shop & Farm Animal Barn petting area will be available\nChildren’s Activities – include wool sheep making\, weaving\, games & coloring; woolly sheep take-home craft.\nShort Course Fiber Classes – learn drop spindling\, felting or hand carding. Please call or email to pre-register.  Classes fill quickly.\nHelp make one of the shawls! DESCRIPTION:Weaving is a great winter month activity. Begin the new year with a new craft or expand upon your current weaving knowledge with one of our classes. Navajo Weaving – Jan 9-11 Learn how to weave in the Navajo tradition in one weekend. This is a basic weaving class\, including fiber arts history and practical technology; offered on site or virtually. Each participant will finish a project to take home. Retreat fee is $299.00; all materials provided. Inkle Loom Weaving – Jan 18 Learn to warp and weave on an inkle loom in this 3-hour class. Each participant will make and take home a sash and a bookmark. Class fee is $49; all materials provided Beginners Rigid Heddle Weaving: Mug Rugs – Jan 25 Learn how to warp and weave on a rigid heddle loom. Take 4 finished mug rugs home with you. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Table Loom Weaving – Jan 31-Feb 1 Students will warp and weave their projects on a table loom. Each participant will make & take home a scarf or table runner and a trivet Class fee is $159; all materials provided Rag Rug Weaving – Feb 8 Learn to weave on a pre-warped floor loom and take home a beautiful woven rag rug. Class fee is $10 plus $10 per foot woven\, all materials included. Class participants decide on the length they prefer during class. A deposit of $20 is required. Floor Loom Weaving – Feb 27-March 1 Students will warp and weave their projects on a harnessed floor loom. Each participant will make & take home a scarf or table runner and a trivet Class fee is $259; all materials provided Freestyle Weaving on the Rigid Heddle Loom for Beginners – March 8 Learn to warp and weave in a freestyle fashion on a rigid heddle loom. Participants will leave with a beautiful wall hanging or a coffee table runner. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Log Cabin Weaving on the Rigid Heddle Loom – April 5 Learn to warp and weave a log cabin design weaving on a rigid heddle loom. Participants will leave with a beautiful scarf or table runner. Class fee is $99; all materials provided Our classes go a degree farther than most\, and teach some history of fiber arts\, and practical technology. As well as being augmented by hands on learning tools available in the Educational Farm Museum. Shepherd’s Cross offers weaving and fiber arts classes year-round\, on an individual or group basis. Shepherd’s Cross is an accredited Agritourism facility\, an Oklahoma Museum Association member\, and a Made in Oklahoma Company that processes local Animal Welfare Approved fiber (chemical free\, hormone free\, free range\, all natural). Shepherd’s Cross hosts a mini wool mill\, processing the wool from their own sheep raised on site. Heart of the Shepherd is the non-profit organization (501-C3) that operates at the farm and establishes wool mills in remote\, impoverished areas around the world. Heart of the Shepherd teaches Biblical references to the harvest\, the animals\, farming\, and gardening. Shepherd’s Cross Farm Store is open Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 – 5:30\, year-round (closed some holidays).

DESCRIPTION:Fiber Fest Weekend Retreat August 8\, 9\, & 10\, 2024 – Thursday\, Friday\, & Saturday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Three days of learning how to process any kind of fiber (we teach with wool) Includes washing\, dyeing\, wet felting\, carding\, picking\, spindling\, spinning\, needle felting\, and weaving and some history of fiber arts with practical technology. Each participant will make and keep multiple projects. Virtual or onsite Retreat fee is only $297 (all three days); all materials provided. Any single day of the Retreat is available for $99 per day. Retreats are augmented by hands on learning tools available in the Educational Farm Museum and with a collection of fiber arts from around the world. \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:For those interested in returning to the basics of farming\, small ruminants present a great option for sustainable living. Our small ruminant class is a great place to start learning how to be more self-sufficient and for homesteading. Learn how to care for small ruminants such as sheep\, goats\, alpacas\, and llamas. Class includes instruction\, handouts\, videos\, tutorials\, and hands on experience. The primary instructor for the class is Dr. Diane Dickinson\, a licensed veterinarian and an agriculturalist\, with over 40 years of livestock and farming experience. Her unique perspective of animal husbandry care includes that of a producer\, a veterinarian\, and a small flock & herd owner. She also shares her experiences in global agriculture\, Biblical agriculture\, sustainable living\, natural production\, agritourism and niche markets. The Dickinsons have owned and operated Shepherd’s Cross\, a working sheep farm\, for over 30 years. Their livestock include sheep\, cattle\, alpacas\, llamas\, donkeys\, horses & poultry. Their farm is Animal Welfare Approved with their livestock pasture raised and pasture fed. Class Topics Include Vaccinations Feet Trimming Tail docking Bloodless castration Managing pasture & Feeding Parasites & Worms Practical profitable flock herd health for working shepherds FAMACHA Sheep\, goats\, alpacas & others Lambing & birthing Neonatal care – lambs\, kids & others Tubing Wool management AWA Shearing Classes are limited to 20 participants and fill quickly. Beverages are provided at breaks. Bring your lunch. Cost is $99.00 per person\, $179.00 for 2 family members\, or $259.00 for 3 or more family members (age 16 & over). SUMMARY:Woolly Weekend at Shepherd’s Cross
DESCRIPTION:Annual Summer “Make Over” or Haircut for the Sheep & An Authentic Sheep-to-Shawl Event\n​\nDid you know that sheep must be shorn every year?  Sheep grow a nice long winter coat\, and in preparation for the heat of the summer\, the shepherd lovingly and laboriously gives them a shearing – a haircut.  They would suffer heat prostration amongst other ailments if they were not shorn each year. In giving the sheep a shearing\, the shepherd demonstrates his love for the sheep. Did you know that sheep can be shorn standing or sitting?  We shear our sheep “sitting.”  Sheep naturally relax when in the sitting position.  This is the way sheep are shorn all over the world\, and throughout history.  This reminds us of our Lord Jesus\, in the reference from Isaiah 53\, “Like a sheep before the shearers is silent\, so the Lord went to the cross on our behalf.”\n​ \n\nSee the shearing every 30 minutes on all three days.\nExperience the shepherds and shepherdesses shearing. This is not a speed competition\, but the work of real\, working\, caring shepherds.\nWatch as the wool is shorn from the sheep (a simple haircut!)\, and is washed\, spun\, and woven into usable products – a shawl or other wool product – right before your eyes.\nThis is an authentic sheep-to-shawl event\, one of only a few such events in the world\, in which the first wool shorn during the weekend is actually made into a finished product that same weekend.\nWoolly Weekend will proceed even in the event of rain\nDemonstrations throughout the day include spinning wheels\, carding\, weaving on looms\, felting\, drop spindling\, knitting\, crochet\nThis is our Easter event.\nEnjoy a peaceful respite at the farm – hang out and watch the sheep graze\nFarm Museum\, Silo\, Wool Mill\, Bible Garden\, Shepherd’s Shop & Farm Animal Barn petting area will be available\nChildren’s Activities – include wool sheep making\, weaving\, games & coloring; woolly sheep take-home craft.\nShort Course Fiber Classes – learn drop spindling\, felting or hand carding. Please call or email to pre-register.  Classes fill quickly.\nHelp make one of the shawls!
